Wine Picks: Bigger IS Better

a close up of a bottle

Bigger is always better. That's why Calissa's extensive wine cellar contains more large format wines than any other restaurant on Long Island, ranging from magnums (2 bottles) to the grand Salamanzar (12 bottles). Here are a few of our favorites - get them while they last!:

La Chiuse, Brunello Di Montalcino 2010  (9L)

Due to a legal technicality within the Italian government, this is literally THE only 9L of Brunello in existence. Called “The Vintage of a Lifetime” (or, alternatively, “The Taylor Swift of Wines”), 2010 was widely regarded as the vintage of the century, and this particular bottle rocks a 94 from Wine Spectator.  Its juicy tannins and bold structure are a perfect match for our rotisserie brisket kalamaki or spicy corn and feta fritters.

Domaine Saint Lucie, MiP "Made in Provence" Rosé 2018  (6L)

Our favorite Provence rosé is even better in Methuselah size.  With notes of melon and white peach, MiP flows freely all over St. Tropez and beyond for its fresh and flirty characteristics.  The MiP pairs perfectly with Mediterranean seafood, like our salt-baked whole Montauk striped bass or grilled Portuguese octopus with kalamata olives and fresh oregano.

Jacquart, “Brut Mosaïque” Champagne NV  (3L)

Summer is all about celebration, so why not toast with a baller bubbly? This is a complex, grown-up champagne with rich notes of ripe pear, fig, and almond.   Champagne is a classic pairing with fried foods, so try it with our Point Judith crispy calamari or fried saganaki cheese with house grown fig.  For a truly extravagant pairing, sip this large format wine with our most popular large format dish: the decadent and dramatic lobster bucatini.
